Lifting a carrier onto a tow ball before loading two e-bikes is the part many owners dread. The Atera Strada E-Bike M answers that with a stated carrier weight of 14.9 kg, while still offering a 60 kg payload. It is designed around e-bikes, with wide spacing between the wheel rails, and suits drivers who load and unload the rack often.

In its favour
- At 14.9 kg it is the lightest of the 60 kg carriers here, easier on your back and on nose weight.
- Wide 23 cm rail spacing keeps two e-bikes from rubbing.
- Tilts down wide so the boot opens with bikes fitted, the listing says.
Good to know
- The listing does not say whether it folds flat for storage.
- No per-bike limit or maximum tyre width is stated.
Our take
Weight and payload
Atera gives the carrier weight as 14.9 kg in the bullets, while the spec table lists 18 kg, which may include packaging. Either way it sits at the lighter end of the 60 kg carriers we compare. A lighter rack also leaves more of your towbar nose weight for the bikes themselves.
No limit per bike is stated. With a 60 kg total, two typical 25 kg e-bikes fit with room for locks and bags, but two heavy e-MTBs may need their batteries removed.
Spacing and bike protection
The wheel rails are 23 cm apart, the widest spacing stated among the towbar carriers here. That gives more room for wide riser bars and bulky mid motor housings.
Atera fits its Wheel Protection shells to hold the tyres and Frame Protection gripper arms to hold the frame. The listing does not give a maximum tyre width, so owners of fat tyre bikes should ask before ordering.
Fitting and boot access
It comes fully pre-assembled and fixes to a standard towbar with a quick-release fastener. The carrier tips down a long way, so the boot can be opened with bikes in place.
It can be expanded to carry a third bike. The listing does not say whether the carrier folds flat for storage, and the specs mark it as not foldable, so plan for a space in the garage.
Where it sits against rivals
Next to the Thule EasyFold XT 2B, the Atera is lighter but less compact when stored. The EUFAB Crow Basic is lighter still, yet its 50 kg payload is less suited to two e-bikes.
Material is listed as steel and aluminium, and Atera states 10 years of spare part availability in the EU, a useful point for a carrier you may keep through several cars.
Verdict
Buy the Strada E-Bike M if you want a carrier made for e-bikes that is easy to lift and leaves plenty of space between bikes. If storage space is tight, the folding Thule EasyFold XT 2B makes more sense, and for three bikes the Atera Strada Sport 3 is the better fit.
