Families often need to carry one e-bike alongside two ordinary bikes, and that is where the Atera Strada Sport 3 fits. It takes three bikes as standard and has the highest stated payload among the carriers compared on this site, 66.9 kg. The Black Edition finish and a full lighting system come fitted, and the whole unit arrives pre-assembled.

In its favour

  • Carries three bikes and the highest total load in this guide at 66.9 kg.
  • Fully pre-assembled with wheel shells, padded gripper arms, ratchet straps and lights.
  • A secured folding mechanism gives boot access with the bikes mounted; 3-year warranty listed.

Good to know

  • Tyres up to 2.4 inches only, so fat and wide-tyre e-bikes will not fit.
  • Three e-bikes would exceed 66.9 kg, so in practice it takes one or two.

Our take

Payload in real terms

A 66.9 kg limit sounds generous, but three e-bikes would usually exceed it. A realistic load is one e-bike of 25 to 30 kg plus two lighter pedal bikes, or two e-bikes with batteries removed. The carrier itself weighs 18.1 kg, which you add when working out towbar nose weight.

Atera describes it as ideal for e-bikes, but gives no limit per bike, so spread the weight sensibly.

Fit limits to check first

Frames from 2.5 to 8 cm in diameter can be held by the gripper arms. Tyres must be no wider than 2.4 inches. That excludes fat tyre e-bikes and some plus-size mountain bikes, so measure first.

The wheel rails sit 18 cm apart. With three bikes side by side that is snug, and handlebars may need turning so they do not clash. The carrier measures 110 by 20 by 72 cm according to the bullets.

Security and fitting

The listing names wheel trays with wheel protection, padded gripper arms, ratchet straps with tension protection and anti-theft protection. A quick-release fastener locks it to the towbar, and a secured folding mechanism lets the boot open with bikes mounted. Atera says it can be expanded with a fourth wheel space.

The specs list a 3-year warranty and 10 years of spare part availability in the EU.

Against the two-bike carriers

The Westfalia BC 60 accepts wider tyres, up to 70 mm, but needs an extension kit for a third bike. The Atera Strada E-Bike M is lighter and spaces bikes more widely, though it is built around two bikes rather than three.

Its fixed frame is the trade-off: the specs mark it as not foldable, so it needs a dedicated corner of the garage between trips rather than a spot in the boot.

Verdict

The Strada Sport 3 suits households that carry three bikes, with one heavy e-bike among them, on standard width tyres. If you only carry two e-bikes, the Atera Strada E-Bike M gives more space between them, and if your tyres are wider than 2.4 inches, the Westfalia BC 60 is the safer pick.
