Westfalia makes towbars, and its BC 60 carrier is built to sit on them with two e-bikes on board. It suits owners who want to open the boot at a car park without unloading the bikes, and who like a listing that spells out the size limits. Tyre width, wheelbase and frame diameter are all given, which makes it easy to check your bikes before you buy.

In its favour
- The fold-down function lets you reach the boot with bikes on board, except on VW T5/T6 and Mercedes Vito/Viano.
- Takes tyres up to 70 mm wide, wheelbases up to 1,300 mm and frames up to 80 mm across.
- A single key locks both the carrier and the bikes, and a 5-year warranty is listed.
Good to know
- No per-bike weight limit is given, only the 60 kg total.
- 70 mm tyre width rules out fat tyre e-bikes.
Our take
Size limits in plain numbers
The listing allows tyres up to 70 mm wide, wheelbases up to 1,300 mm and frame tubes up to 80 mm across. Most city, trekking and hardtail e-bikes fall inside those limits. A fat tyre bike on 4 inch rubber will not, and a long-tail cargo bike may exceed the wheelbase.
Distance between the wheels is 220 mm. The total load is 60 kg, but no per-bike figure is quoted, so two very heavy bikes are best carried without batteries.
Boot access and electrics
A fold-down action lets the bikes tilt away so the tailgate can open. Westfalia lists two exceptions, the VW T5 and T6 and the Mercedes Vito and Viano, where this does not work.
The 13-pin connector feeds the lights from the car. Westfalia notes that only 8 of the 13 pins are used, which matters only if you rely on the others for a caravan.
Living with it
The carrier arrives pre-assembled, so it is usable straight from the box. It folds for storage, and the specs give a weight of 18 kg, which is a fair lift onto a tow ball.
One key locks both the carrier to the car and the bikes to the carrier. Accessories are offered for a third bike, a transport box, a bag and a drive-up ramp; a ramp is worth considering for heavy e-bikes.
Compared with the Thule and the Atera
The Thule EasyFold XT 2B states 30 kg per bike, which the BC 60 does not, but its listing is less clear on tilt. The Atera Strada Sport 3 carries a third bike as standard and has a higher total load, though its tyre limit of 2.4 inches is tighter than the Westfalia's 70 mm.
Verdict
The BC 60 is a good match for drivers who want boot access with bikes fitted, clear size limits and a long warranty, which the specs give as five years. Pick the Thule EasyFold XT 2B if you want a stated per-bike rating, or the Atera Strada Sport 3 if you regularly carry three bikes.
