Full suspension and folding rarely go together, which is what makes the SAMEBIKE LO26-II unusual. It is a 26 inch mountain-style e-bike with a four-link rear end that still folds small enough for a car boot or a flat. It suits riders who want a comfortable bike for bumpy lanes and light trails but have nowhere to store a full-size frame.

Our take

Motor and battery figures

SAMEBIKE fits a 250 W high-speed brushless geared hub with five assist levels and quotes 75 Nm of torque, more than most bikes in its class state. Assistance stops at 25 km/h.

Energy comes from a 48 V 14 Ah pack, 672 Wh on the spec sheet, which lifts out so you can charge it indoors. The maker gives 90 to 100 km in assisted mode and 40 to 50 km on electric power alone, and notes that the electric-only mode is for private land.

How the suspension is built

At the front there is an oil pressure fork. At the back a four-link layout drives a mid-mounted shock with a mechanical lock, and the saddle has its own shock as well. Travel figures are not given.

The gearing is 3 by 7 for 21 speeds, which covers steep climbs better than a single 7-speed cassette. Disc brakes are fitted front and rear, and so are mudguards.

Folding and storage

Folded, the bike measures 102 by 39 by 96 cm. That is bulky compared with a 20 inch folder, but small for a full suspension bike. The listed weight is 25 kg, so lifting it into a boot is a two-handed job.

The maximum load is 120 kg, which includes the rider and anything carried. Front and rear lighting is limited to a headlight and wheel hub reflectors, so a rear lamp is worth adding for winter commutes.

Who should look elsewhere

Heavier riders should note the 120 kg limit; the SAMEBIKE XD26-II is rated for 150 kg and adds 180 mm hydraulic discs, though it does not fold and weighs 29 kg. Riders after serious trail performance will find the Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 HPC Race 800 lighter and far better specified.

Verdict

The LO26-II is the pick for riders under 120 kg who need full suspension and a bike that folds into the car. If you do not need the fold and want a higher load limit, the SAMEBIKE XD26-II suits better, and for proper trail riding the Cube Stereo Hybrid One44 HPC Race 800 is the clear step up.
