An electric mountain bike only stays a bicycle in UK law if the motor is rated at 250 W and assistance cuts out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). Plenty of e-MTBs on Amazon exceed that, so every bike here has a listing that states both figures and mentions no throttle or electric-only mode. For trail use, look at suspension (front only or front and rear, and how much travel), motor torque in Nm for steep climbs, battery size, tyre width, and whether the brakes are hydraulic. Weight matters too, because you will lift the bike over stiles and gates. Most budget e-MTBs do not state fork travel, so we flag that where it is missing. This guide compares five bikes on those facts as each maker lists them.
