A step-through frame drops or removes the top tube, so you can get on without swinging a leg over the saddle. That helps riders with stiff hips or knees, anyone riding in a skirt or coat, and anyone who stops and starts a lot in town. The frame shape is only half the story, though. A low-step bike still has to suit your height, carry its battery without becoming too heavy to wheel into a hallway, and keep to the UK limit of a 250 W motor with assistance cutting out at 15.5 mph.
