The Burley Honey Bee is aimed at parents who want to carry one or two children behind an electric bike and then push the same trailer round the shops on foot. What sets it apart in this group is a short line in the listing: Burley calls it e-bike friendly. None of the other child trailers we compare make that claim, which matters if your bike has assistance and you want reassurance that the maker expects it to be towed that way.

In its favour

  • Burley lists it as e-bike friendly, the only child trailer here that says so.
  • A 1-wheel stroller kit is included, so it doubles as a pushchair.
  • Parking brake for loading, plus an adjustable one-click 5-point harness.

Good to know

  • Thru-axle and hub motor fit details are not given.
  • Frame and plastic parts get 3 years of cover but fabric only 1 year.

Our take

What Burley says the Honey Bee does

Amazon lists it as a 2-in-1 bike trailer and stroller. The box includes the trailer body, a tow bar with steel hitch, two wheels, two wheel guards, a safety flag, the manual and a 1-wheel stroller kit, so converting it to a pushchair does not mean buying anything extra.

Inside, the children sit in a two-seat cabin and are held by an adjustable 5-point harness that Burley describes as one-click. A parking brake keeps the trailer still while you lift a child in or out, which is a small detail that becomes important on a sloping drive or a camber at the school gate.

Load, weight and size in daily use

The maximum recommended load is 100 lb, roughly 45 kg, and the trailer itself weighs 11.6 kg on an aluminium frame. That leaves a reasonable margin for two small passengers plus a bag, though the combined figure has to stay under the limit. The motor on an e-bike will make the extra mass easy to get moving, but you still have to stop it, so allow longer braking distances.

The listed dimensions are 88.9 cm long, 77.5 cm wide and 95.6 cm high. That width is worth measuring against your garden gate, shed door or hallway before ordering, because a two-seat trailer is wider than most bikes' handlebars.

Fit, hitching and warranty

Although Burley labels it e-bike friendly, the listing does not explain how the steel hitch copes with a thru-axle or a rear hub motor. If your bike has either, contact Burley or your dealer to confirm which hitch or adapter you need before the first ride.

Warranty is split by material: frame and plastic parts are covered for three years, fabric parts for one. Since the fabric shell takes the most sun, rain and scuffs, it is worth storing the trailer indoors when it is not in use.

How it compares with the Encore X and Burley Bee

The Burley Encore X is a touch lighter at 10.9 kg and adds suspension plus a removable seat for cargo or a dog, but its listing says nothing about e-bikes. The Burley Bee is lighter still at 9.8 kg, yet it is bike only and cannot become a stroller. The Honey Bee sits between them: a pushchair conversion out of the box and the only explicit e-bike wording.

Verdict

Choose the Honey Bee if you ride an e-bike, want a stroller kit included and value Burley's own e-bike friendly statement. If suspension and a cargo mode matter more, look at the Burley Encore X, and if you only ever tow and want the lightest frame, the Burley Bee is the simpler pick.
