The Burley Coho XC is for riders who want to carry camping kit or supplies along singletrack, bridleways and forest roads where a wide two-wheel trailer would snag. It runs on a single wheel that follows the bike's line and uses coil-spring suspension. For e-bike owners its most useful detail is a yoke that adjusts to hub widths from 126 to 197 mm, the clearest fit information in our trailer guide.

Our take

Why one wheel

Burley explains that the single wheel gives a slimmer profile and lower rolling resistance, so it can follow you down narrow trails. A two-wheel trailer is steadier when parked but can clip gateposts and hedges on tight paths. With an electric motor helping on climbs, a loaded Coho becomes a realistic option for multi-day trips.

The coil-spring suspension is meant to keep the trailer and its load stable over rough ground.

Cargo bay and loading

The bay holds more than 70 litres and has removable side panels, giving more options for strapping down awkward gear. A cargo net, fender and safety flag are included. A height-adjustable kickstand holds both trailer and bike upright while you load, which is welcome when the bike is heavy.

The listed maximum load is 70 lb, about 32 kg, and the trailer weighs 9.62 kg. Its 169 cm length means storage needs a long space.

The axle you still have to buy

The listing is clear that the Coho axle is sold separately and is required for use. Budget for it, and buy the version that matches your bike's rear axle. The adjustable-width yoke covers 126 to 197 mm hubs, but the listing does not mention hub motors specifically, so check with Burley if your e-bike has one.

Warranty is three years on frame and plastic parts, one year on fabric.

Who should look elsewhere

If you carry heavy shopping on roads, a two-wheel trailer such as the Burley Flatbed takes 45 kg and parks without a stand. The Retrospec Rover Hauler adds a weather-resistant enclosed bag for town use.

It is also not a child carrier in any sense. Despite a 5-point harness appearing in the specification table, the Coho is described only as a cargo trailer, so do not use it for passengers.

Verdict

The Coho XC is the right trailer if you ride trails or bikepack and need clear hub-width fitting. For heavier road loads choose the Burley Flatbed, and for groceries kept dry in town the Retrospec Rover Hauler is the simpler option.
