Our take

Pedelec rules and the motor

COLORWAY makes a point of describing the BK15M as a pedelec: the 250 W motor provides assistance only when you pedal and cuts out at 25 km/h. The listing presents this as UK compliant. There is no throttle mentioned, which keeps it within the usual definition of an electrically assisted pedal cycle. Motor torque is not stated.

Battery and range

The 720 Wh pack detaches for indoor charging and added security. COLORWAY does not quote a range, which makes direct comparison harder but avoids an inflated claim. For context, the SAMEBIKE XD26-II claims up to 100 km from 672 Wh, so this battery should comfortably cover long rides, but fat 4.0 inch tyres and a 30 kg bike will use more energy than slimmer wheels.

Tyres, suspension and brakes

The 26 by 4.0 inch tyres give a large contact patch, extra grip on loose surfaces and some cushioning. There is front suspension only. Brakes are listed as front and rear disc, without saying whether they are hydraulic or mechanical, so check before buying if that matters to you.

The 7-speed gear system lets you change cadence on climbs; the specification table mentions front and rear derailleur configuration, but the bullets describe only a 7-speed system.

Lights, display and limits

An integrated front light and an LCD showing speed, battery level, distance and assist level are included. The maximum load is 120 kg, lower than the 150 kg of the SAMEBIKE XD26-II. The listing says no assembly is required, though some final setup is usual. Warranty length is not stated.

Who it does not suit

At 30 kg this is the heaviest bike in our under-1000 guide, so it is a poor choice if you have to carry it up steps or lift it onto a roof rack. Riders who mostly use tarmac will find the SAMEBIKE RS-A01MEN lighter rolling, and those wanting full suspension should look at the XD26-II.

Verdict

Choose the COLORWAY BK15M if the largest battery and fat tyre grip are your priorities and you can store it at ground level. For full suspension and hydraulic brakes, the SAMEBIKE XD26-II is the closer rival, and road commuters will find the SAMEBIKE RS-A01MEN easier going.
