The SAMEBIKE XD26-II is for riders who want comfort and range in equal measure: dual suspension, 26 inch fat tyres and a 672 Wh battery, with a claim of up to 100 km in pedal assist. Its most notable component is a pair of 180 mm hydraulic disc brakes, larger rotors than the other bikes in our under-1000 guide. That is reassuring on a heavy bike ridden in wet British weather.

Our take

Battery and charging

The removable 48 V 14 Ah battery is listed at 672 Wh. SAMEBIKE claims up to 100 km in pedal-assist mode, a realistic-sounding figure for this capacity on flat routes in a low setting. Full charging takes six to eight hours, so most owners will charge overnight. The battery can be taken indoors, which helps in cold months.

Motor and assistance

Power comes from a 250 W brushless motor, and SAMEBIKE states compliance with UK rules at 25 km/h maximum assisted speed. The 7-speed thumb shifter covers a modest gear range; fat tyres and a 29 kg frame mean you will lean on the motor on climbs. Torque is not given.

Comfort and handling

Dual suspension and fat tyres soften potholes, gravel and tree roots. The trade-off is rolling resistance: on smooth tarmac, wide tyres feel slower and use more battery than the 2.1 inch tyres on the SAMEBIKE RS-A01MEN. The frame is 6061 aluminium and the maximum rider load is 150 kg.

The listing claims IP54 water resistance and says the bike was assessed from minus 20 C to 40 C. A 3.5 inch colour LCD shows speed, battery and mileage.

Setup and warranty

The bike arrives 85% pre-assembled. The one-year warranty covers the motor, battery and controller, and the listing mentions UK-based after-sales support. The minimum rider height field reads 1.6 centimetres, an obvious typo for 1.6 metres.

Against the RS-A01MEN and COLORWAY BK15M

The SAMEBIKE RS-A01MEN is a hardtail with a smaller 540 Wh battery and mechanical brakes, but slimmer tyres. The COLORWAY BK15M offers an even larger 720 Wh pack on 4.0 inch tyres, but with only front suspension, a 30 kg weight and no stated brake type beyond disc.

Verdict

Pick the XD26-II if you want full suspension, fat tyres and big hydraulic brakes with a large battery. If you ride mostly on smooth roads, the SAMEBIKE RS-A01MEN rolls more easily, and if maximum battery size is the goal, the COLORWAY BK15M has the most watt hours.
