The SAMEBIKE LO26-II is for riders who want an e-bike that folds into a car boot or a small flat but still rides like a full-size mountain bike. Most folders use 14 to 20 inch wheels; this one keeps 26 inch wheels, full suspension and 21 gears. It is the most versatile bike in several of our guides, appearing in our folding, hybrid, mountain, long-range and under-1000 lists, though the listing leaves out its weight.

In its favour

  • The listing states a 250 W rear hub motor reaching 25 km/h and calls it UK road legal.
  • 21 gears and hydraulic disc brakes are unusual on a folding bike, per the listing.
  • A step-through frame and adjustable saddle suit riders from 1.6 m to 2.1 m.

Good to know

  • Weight is not stated, and full-size folders tend to be heavy.
  • The rider plus cargo limit is quoted as 120 kg in one place and 150 kg in another.

Our take

Gearing and frame

SAMEBIKE fits 21-speed gearing, a wide range that lets you drop assist on flat roads and still find an easy gear for climbs. The aluminium frame has a step-through design with an adjustable saddle height of 82 to 98 cm, and the listing suggests it suits riders from 1.6 m to 2.1 m. Maximum total load is given as 120 kg in the bullets and 150 kg in the specification table, so check with the seller.

Tyres are 26 by 2.35 inches.

Motor, battery and range

A 250 W rear hub motor provides assistance up to 25 km/h. The removable 48 V 14 Ah battery holds roughly 672 Wh, and SAMEBIKE claims 90 to 110 km per charge in pedal assist mode. It is said to work down to minus 20 C and carries an IP54 rating against rain and spray. Cold weather always reduces range, so winter commuters should expect less.

Folding and carrying

The listing gives one folded figure, 102 cm, and says it fits car boots, trains and compact flats. Without width, height or weight, it is hard to judge how practical it is to lift. A full-suspension 26 inch bike with a large battery is unlikely to be light, so this is a bike for folding into a car rather than carrying up stairs every day.

Brakes, display and setup

Hydraulic disc brakes are fitted front and rear, which is welcome on a bike of this type. A 3.5 inch colour LCD shows speed, battery level, distance and assist mode. The bike arrives 85% assembled and carries a one-year warranty. Minimum rider height is listed as 160 cm.

Who should choose something else

Commuters who need to carry a folder onto trains and up steps should look at the FabricBike Volt, which weighs 16.5 kg and states full folded dimensions. Riders who do not need folding at all may prefer the SAMEBIKE XD26-II, which shares a 672 Wh battery and adds fat tyres and 180 mm hydraulic brakes.

Verdict

Buy the LO26-II if you want full-size wheels, full suspension and 21 gears in a bike that folds for the car. If weight and folded size matter, the FabricBike Volt is far easier to carry, and the SAMEBIKE XD26-II is the non-folding alternative with a similar battery.
